Vegan Mushroom Steak Recipe

"Mushroom Steak" is a giant mushroom, that you eat like a steak!

Makes Two Servings

Best served over a bed of rice with salad.


Kitchen Tools

  • Conventional oven
  • Baking tray
  • Spoon
  • Foil
  • Mixing bowl
  • Vegetable knife
  • Cutting board
  • Measuring cup
  • Oven mitt


  • 2 portabello mushrooms
  • 2 shallots
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1/2 red bell pepper
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 cup of vegetable oil


  1. Preheat oven to 400◦F.

  2. Line baking tray with foil.

  3. Rinse portabello mushrooms, remove stems and save them. Place portabello mushrooms round side down in the center of baking tray.

  4. Chop shallots, garlic, red bell pepper, and stems of portabello.

  5. Heat vegetable oil over medium heat/flame stove.

  6. Sautee chopped vegetables until shallots are golden brown.

  7. Remove mixture from heat and pour into mixing bowl and add balsamic vinegar.

  8. Scoop veggies over the portabello mushrooms and pour sauce into the ridges of the portabello mushroom.

  9. Place entire tray into oven and bake for 10-12 minutes.

  10. Remove from oven, slice, and serve!
